When I tried doing this I lost internet connection and my computer which was plugged directly into the Nighthawk kept altering between no network cable plugged in, and no internet connection. Since it worked as 2 way traffic before turning the MI424WR into a bridge. I thought this was possible simply by ethernet from LAN port on nighthawk router into the moca adapter back into a splitter that houses the same connection coming in through the MI424WR bridge. My question is whether I can use the Auctiontech moca adapters (ECB2500C) to send the LAN back throughout the house using the coax connection. so I set up the MI424WR as a moca WAN bridge successfully and got the wireless network going. I got a fancy new Nighthawk R8000 router that I would like to use for faster wireless speeds & range, etc. (Sidebar: In such a setup with a connection to the cable provider, a “PoE” MoCA filter would be needed on the top-level splitter’s input port.I had my house set up using the Actiontec MI424WR Rev 1 with coax from ONT, I then used some actiontec moca adapters to run the network through the house since it is wired for Coax to ethernet switches which I plugged my IP cams, gaming systems, etc. So, absent the need for the cable signal getting to a modem, connecting the main bridge directly to the input port is effectively the same, though marginally more efficient than the cascaded configuration. That said, consider the typical setup using a 2-way splitter to feed a cable modem location, with all other nodes hung off a secondary splitter connected to the other output of the 2-way: all MoCA communication with the main MoCA bridge is passing between the secondary splitter’s output ports and its input port. But, like you suggest, it’s typically not an option for the top-level splitter needing to pass the cable signal. Oh, yes, it’s definitely doable a LOT of people do it that way, especially when their main concern is the connection between remote nodes and the main bridge, with less concern for the path between remote nodes. Overall I think it’s all working really well, and has allowed me to set up wired back haul to my Orbi mesh system (running in bridge mode) and free up the WiFi for only devices that can’t be wired. LivingRoom has 3 coax ports, so unlikely I’ll need more than one there. I have a total of 9 coax locations in my house, so the 8-way splitter allows connection to the other rooms if needed. The currently unused ports on the splitter are capped off with 75 ohm terminators. 3 of those adapters are feeding TP-Link 8 port gigabit switches that devices are connected to, with the 4th directly connected to an AppleTV in the master bedroom. This is working well to feed internet connectivity to 4 more goCoax adapters in different rooms. PoE filter on incoming Comcast line connected to the modem, Firewalla Purple WAN port connected to the modem directly and LAN port connected to a goCoax MoCA 2.5 adapter, MoCA coax connection feeding the IN port of an Antronix 8-way MoCA compliant splitter. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
